Mentor Program

As LARA grows, more opportunities arise for us to help each other. In that vein, LARA is re-instituting it’s Mentor Program.

We are looking for Mentors in lots of different areas:

  • Published
  • E-published
  • Self-published
  • PRO

Some areas a Mentor can help with:

  • Log line
  • 3 line pitch
  • Plot cohesion
  • 1st chapter
  • Contest entries
  • Synopsis
  • Tricks to formatting your book for Smashwords/Kindle/etc
  • Promo ideas
  • Brainstorming
  • Getting to PRO
  • And even more.

The industry has changed; we have published authors who are looking to dip their toes into self-publishing, and they, too will need a mentor. We have self-pubbed authors who might be looking for an agent, and want some guidance. Plus we have authors just starting out, who’ve finished their first manuscript and are thinking, “Now What?” Our goal is to match a Mentee with the Best Mentor, based upon need and experience.

*******************************************************

Mentors do not give advice on grammar, spelling, manuscript format or the basics of a query letter.  Mentors also do not check research, recommend you to their agent or editor, be your best friend (though this could happen), or give you the secret to skipping the long hours (or years) of writing, rewriting, learning, and improving that are needed to be published (because, you know – there is no secret).

Mentors also will give you honest advice – about the market (which is changing hourly),  craft, and doing research.  Every mentor has valuable knowledge to pass on.
